Crowley Day

Crowley Day 2020

BERYL & THEO CROWLEY MEMORIAL DAY 2020

Last Sunday players came from Port Welshpool, Rosedale, Karingal, Melbourne B C, Garfield, Cardinia Waters and Koo Wee Rup to join Pakenham Bowls Club members in the annual celebration and commemoration of the contribution made by past Life Members Beryl and Theo Crowley to the club – and of course Gary’s nephew (and Theo and Beryl’s grandson) Peter Jonas came up from Trafalgar.

Three games of ten ends were played with some participants treating it as a fun day while others almost took the event seriously – in the end however, the light hearted approach was clearly the stand out winner.  It was pleasing to see a sea of colour with both greens almost filled.

At the completion of play, while the winners were being determined, all present tucked into a delicious afternoon tea prepared by Faye, Allison and Lesley (the freshly made scones were a big hit ladies).

It wasn’t quite a case of, “every child gets a prize,” but there did seem to be a lot of them, with Best Game Winners from each of the first, second and third games, as well as First, Second and Third outright (see photos).

Crow and Peter did the unthinkable – they won their own family event! (ably assisted by Google and Jen Bainbridge).  There were calls of “rigged” and initially a stewards inquiry was suggested; however all were assured that everything was completely above board and the rumblings soon ceased.

Hopefully every one will turn up again next year to join in an event which has now been held for over 30 years.  In the long term interests of that tradition it was good to see Gary introducing his son Wayne to the microphone.  Start writing your speech now young fella – looks like Dad wants you to be master of ceremonies next year!
